Embracing Greatness with Josh Allen

Josh Allen

Successful brands always challenge the status quo, they don't copy, they innovate, and their heads-down and focused on their growth. This is the exact mentality that I've seen Josh take with all of the brands that he is building, from 808's to his nonprofit, The Protege Project, and the freelance work he does outside of his 9-5. If you follow his Instagram you'll see him continuously leveling up his content and creatively highlighting his businesses in new ways, and if you know him outside of social media you'll realize the attention to detail and immense time and effort he pours into his businesses.
Brandon Miller, The Be Great Brand

Joshua Allen, makes everything look good. No matter what city he’s in or what event he goes to; you’ll most likely see him in a fitted jeans, a fitted shirt, and mostly likely, wearing black. He’s a simple dude, with a lot of class. From his 808 Entertainment involvement, to his 9-5 gig, he is always looking his best to get the job done. Event though black is his “go-to” color, Josh is still extremely versatile when it comes to his business attire and his play attire. I can guarantee that his outfit will ALWAYS fit the part, no matter the event. As a man of consistency and efficiency, he typically has everything he needs. From coveralls to suits, or tennis shoes to chelsea boots, Josh is always prepared.

What is the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever received?

“Be yourself, everyone else is taken". You have a lot inside of you to discover; your strengths, your challenges, your gifts & passions. Exploring these things alone will keep you busy enough rather than thinking about what makes everyone else tick.

Describe the style in which you do business, what’s the biggest thing you’velearned about the way that you work?

No one wants to work with a jerk, no matter how much publicity or financial gain you can profit. Being courteous goes a long way. The music industry teaches you to stay on guard and take no jive from any man but there is enough negative energy out there without me adding on to it. I want folks to enjoy working with me, that’s how I build my network.

What does embracing your greatness mean to you?

My passion keeps my flame lit even when my eyes are too heavy to stay open.

It means to find your genetic ability. I’m big into X-Men so bear with me. In the comics, when mutants were put under extreme pressure or faced a life altering experience their powers would emerge. This is when we see their amazing manifestation of their power. Embracing your greatness means to pin point what your abilities are and using them in the most powerful way imaginable. We all have an ability, once we identify and harness it, we’ll be unstoppable.

What makes your brand greater than the competition, what sets you apart?

808 has what music labels worldwide would pay top dollar for; passionate individuals who love the hip hop industry. We’ve all been in different sectors of the entertainment industry and with that comes a gumbo pot of experience that’s at our disposal. Our projects are authentic and always have purpose; to give artist the tools and platform needed to be successful in the industry.

From three-piece suits to jeans or high-heels to street kicks, how do you describe your personal

I’ve always dressed for the job I want instead of the job I’ve had. The confidence that a well-tailored suit can give to a man is unmeasurable. You can still catch me in a pair of huaraches when I’m running errands but I’ll throw on a blazer and hard bottom shoes in a minute.

Fill in the blank, in order to walk a mile in my shoes you have to be ______?Why?

You have to be PASSIONATE. My Passion keeps my flame lit even when my eyes are too heavy to stay open. That’s the thing about being passionate, it never turns off. I think about my future about 100 times a day. It’s like seeing a gift under the Christmas tree but not being able to open it yet. Passion constantly reminds me that there’s something great coming, and that I have to prepare in the time being. I’m living this life because I couldn’t imagine chasing any other cause.

What makes your personal culture so unique? What do you want yourimpact on the culture at large to be?

The world can be a dark place. I want to build brands that can do some actual good in my society. I may not be able to change the world right now but I can help my community take advantage of it.

In terms of your personal entrepreneurial endeavors, what is the SOUL behind your brand and your main motivator?

The soul of 808 is the artist that we help and the audiences that we reach. With my nonprofit, it’s my community. I know I was put on this earth to help others and that’s what I’m doing. At 808, I want artist to focus on their artistry, and my team and I to handle the rest. With the Protégé Project, being able to catapult the next generation is my main motivator. It’s selfish to be blessed and not lend a hand in the success of others. “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can”. Arthur Ashe
