Originally from Denver, but currently residing in Dallas, Brandon Miller is a millennial mogul in the making and has had an entrepreneurial spirit from a very early age. “When I was a kid I started a business called “Let B Do the Job.” I did everything from babysitting, pet sitting, yard work, or shoveling snowy driveways.” Fast forward a few years and the young mogul is the owner of multiple businesses that serves many purposes.

Yo. This is actually one of the hardest questions to answer (believe it or not), but I’ll do my best. I’m Brandon Miller and I am an IT Consultant, Graphic Designer, Serial Entrepreneur, Business Strategist, Chipotle Eater, 5K Runner, Blogger, and so much more. But, let me rewind and try this introduction thing again.

Nonprofit, The Black Burdell, Inc. is making major strides as they bring their one-of-a-kind, inaugural Burdell’s School of Entrepreneurship Conference to a close this past weekend. This one-day startup conference brought together some of the best and brightest minority entrepreneurs and gave practical tactics on growing their business, no matter what stage of the the process attendees were in With over 70 attendees consisting of high school students, college students, and young professionals and 20 Black, millennial CEO and company founders presenting – this conference was truly one of a kind and changed the face of entrepreneurship.

We love diversity, but it's not always represented in our mainstream mediums. “United we stand” is a popular American slogan that we hear quite often, but we don’t always finish the quote… “Divided we fall.”

Here I am again, sitting at work on the heels of another highly publicized assassination of the beauty that is black human life. I walked into the office somberly though still carrying a corporate grin, and was, as usual, greeted by many of those that look nothing like me.

“When I was twelve years old – I vividly remember walking my neighbors dog in the hot sun, going to a family friend’s house to pull weeds, or pushing my dad’s lawnmower around the block cutting grass – all for my self-made business “Let B Do The Job.” I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset and always loved the idea of “being the boss”

I can’t peruse my Instagram feed without seeing countless pictures of #BlackExcellenceAbroad. It really makes me wonder if, in this day and age, it’s imperative that you have a professional iPhonographer tag-along on all transatlantic excursions.

“When I started my first business, I constantly read books, magazines, attended conferences, and networking events and to my dismay, I didn’t see too many people who looked like me or who was my age – and that is why we created this organization,” says Brandon Miller, president of The Black Burdell, an organization on a mission to bridge black entrepreneurs to resources, scholarships, and networks.

Supporting current and aspiring African American entrepreneurs for the past year, The Black Burdell, Inc. announces its winner for the 2016 inaugural “Cultivating Entrepreneurs Scholarship.” The recipient of this scholarship has won a $1,000 scholarship. This novel scholarship was designed specifically to help young entrepreneurs afford the rising cost of education and help them form, grow, and develop their business at the same time.

Young entrepreneurs at Georgia Tech have a new opportunity to get resources for their ideas through an alumni-launched venture called The Black Burdell. The Black Burdell was founded last year by Georgia Tech students and graduates to provide resources for young African-American entrepreneurs. The organization, which aims to be “changing the face of entrepreneurship,” is now accepting applications for its first scholarship from students attending either Georgia Tech or Georgia State University. 

Based in the Mecca of African-American-owned tech firms and the city that boasts the second highest percentage of African-American-owned businesses, The Black Burdell aims to nurture the many seeds of black-owned businesses. Founded by three African American Entrepreneurs from the Georgia Institute of Technology – Brandon Miller, Darren Sanders and Henderson Johnson II are utilizing their recently founded nonprofit to promote, support and cultivate black student entrepreneurs.
